Gombe to distribute 2.1m insecticide-treated nets

As part of measures to combat malaria in Gombe State, the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in collaboration with the Gombe State government, is set to distribute 2.1 million Insecticide-Treated Nets (INTs) to residents of the state.
Team leader of the NMEP Fatima Ali disclosed this yesterday during a media orientation on the exercise held in Gombe State.
She said the distribution campaign, which will last for four days from July 24 to 28, aims to cover all communities in the state.
According to her, the campaign will also include the distribution of 3,481 million doses of SPAQ, a malaria preventive therapy, to children under the age of five.
“The first dose will be administered this month, followed by a second dose 28 days later.”, she noted.
She emphasized the importance of protecting children from malaria, particularly during the rainy season when mosquito breeding increases.
“Children under five are vulnerable and have a higher mortality rate, hence the need for preventive measures,” she said.
