In Lagos, mob vandalises MTN office amidst line disconnection

A large group of frustrated MTN customers on Monday, stormed the company’s office in Festac Town, Lagos State to cause damage to the property.
The protesters were reacting to the network’s decision to block their lines due to a discrepancy between their National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM card registration details.
A viral video shared on social media platforms shows a mob of angry protesters tearing down a barricade fence outside the MTN office.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, responded to the viral video on X.com, stating that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of FESTAC and his team have successfully restored order and calm at the scene of the protest.
“This should not be the way to go!
“Meanwhile, the DPO FESTAC and his men responded immediately after they got this report. They succeeded in restoring normalcy and are still on the ground to maintain peace.
Thediscovererng.com earlier reported that a large crowd of aggrieved subscribers had besieged MTN offices across the country to express their frustration and disappointment over the telecom company’s disconnection of their phone numbers.
Meanwhile, at the MTN offices, a large number of subscribers gathered, forming lengthy queues at the entrance.
The protest is a response to the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) directive to disconnect SIM cards and telephone lines not linked to a valid National Identification Number (NIN), which is set to take effect on July 31, 2024.
