JAMB replaces reading text, announces new text for 2025 UTME


In a strategic move to enhance the reading culture among students, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba as the new recommended text for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Use of English paper.
The endorsement of the novel marks a shift from the previously used The Life Changer, signaling JAMB’s commitment to introducing fresh, relatable content that reflects contemporary Nigerian society and promotes homegrown literature.
Set in the bustling, rapidly developing Lekki area of Lagos, The Lekki Headmaster delves into themes of leadership, education, and societal transformation. Its narrative presents students with a rich exploration of urbanization and the evolving challenges within Nigeria’s educational landscape, providing thought-provoking material for critical engagement.
Author Kabir Alabi Garba expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the influence of his mentors, particularly Mr. Jahman Anikulapo, in shaping his literary journey.

JAMB advises all candidates preparing for the 2025 UTME to study the text thoroughly, as comprehension and analytical questions drawn from the novel will form a significant portion of the Use of English examination.
