Man arrested for stealing goat for child’s naming ceremony

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a goat valued at N200,000 to celebrate his child’s naming ceremony.
Waris was apprehended alongside his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, in the Odeda area of the state.
According to Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the command, the theft occurred on December 25, 2024, when the suspects reportedly invaded a farm while the owner, identified as Mark, was away grazing his cattle. Upon returning to the farm, Mark discovered that one of his goats was missing.
A search was launched within the community, during which some villagers claimed to have seen the suspects riding away with a goat on a motorcycle.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing, transporting, and slaughtering the goat on December 27, 2024,” Odutola said.
The police revealed that the goat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Waris’s daughter, held at Olodo.
