Mixed reactions trail El-Rufai’s defection to SDP

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a need for a new political platform to uphold his progressive values.
Discovererngr.com reports that El-Rufai announced his defection on Monday via his social media handle, stating:
“At this point in my political journey, I have come to the conclusion that I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish. I have now decided to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).”
However, his move has created mixed reactions from netizens, with many commending his decision and pledging their support. Others, however, remain skeptical, arguing that his defection will have little impact on the 2027 elections.
Read some netizens’ reactions below;
@yakubwudil: Next move is a merger of SDP+LP+NNPP+ Atiku camp to beat the incumbent APC.
Interesting times ahead!
My forecast.
@omotayoaolomo10: When we all thought u were going to join forces with Peter obi
@crespo: Thanks Sir, test your popularity in SDP Just like Kwankwaso tested his in NNPP and Atiku did in PDP. Anyways, congratulations to PBAT in advance.
@criticalnews5: Barakallahu fikum, I pray you stand on your existing principles of restructuring our democracy to what suit our diversity.
We need to adapt your APC committee recommendation of zoning democracy so that we can start a proper ideological politics.
Wallai! I love ur principles!!!
@iseoluwa Johnson: A very interesting time ahead but a 10-10 experience is loading as I clearly told you in 2005, Oga Nasir.
I’m sorry but this will only end in tears, sir. Sometimes, I wish you would listen to voice of reason but as you have chosen the path to tread, I can only watch and pray that it will not be as bad as was prophesied for you.
May the Lord God Almighty have mercy on you!!!
@Blackgee: I’m solidly behind you on this decision. @elrufai The SDP focus on social democracy, welfare, and social justice aligns perfectly with your vision, and I have no doubt that you’ll make a significant impact. We are proud to support you every step of the way.
@sanusiyakubu123: While I admire your audacity, it is essential to note that the SDP alone does not have the capacity to challenge the APC in Kaduna State, even at the ward level. You failed to assist young politicians in Kaduna State who could have helped build your party structure.
@Abbayo77: For the first time in my life am going to register as member of political party. SDP all the way
As political observers watch the unfolding drama, it remains to be seen how the APC leadership will respond and what this move means for the party’s future.
