Modric becomes Swansea owner

Swansea confirmed on Monday that Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has joined the club as an investor and co-owner, becoming a minority owner of the Championship side.
Luka Modric is a part-owner of Swansea City, landing a minority stake after reaching an agreement with the Welsh outfit. “Swansea City is delighted to announce that Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric has joined the club as an investor and co-owner,” reads a statement from the club.
The 39-year-old’s deal with the Championship side will have no impact on his playing career, continuing with his tenure at Real Madrid as normal. “It’s an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level,” the Croatian said. “Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help build an exciting future.”
CEO Tom Gorringe also spoke on the veteran midfielder’s arrival following the announcement. “I am excited that Luka has come on board as an investor and co-owner,” he said. “There is no better role model in the game for our players, from the academy right through to the first team. His endorsement of our ambition and willingness to support us on our journey will be instrumental as we aim to continue to improve our results on and off the pitch.”
Sitting in 12th place in England’s second tier, the Real Madrid playmaker will hope Alan Sheehan’s men manage to return to the Premier League in the coming seasons. Swansea were last promoted to the Premier League back in 2010/11, spending seven seasons before being relegated in 2017/18. They are also the first Welsh side to play in the competition.
