NDDC MD dispels rumors over tenure

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has set the record straight on the tenure of the current Governing Board, stating that members were appointed for a four-year term.
Addressing a press conference at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, Ogbuku debunked rumors that his tenure as Managing Director would end this year, labeling them as baseless.
According to Section 4 of the NDDC Establishment Act, board members, excluding ex-officio members, serve a four-year term with the possibility of reappointment for another four years. Ogbuku attributed the push to truncate the board’s tenure to dissatisfaction with the harmonious delivery of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate for the Niger Delta region.
Despite efforts to complete quality projects, Ogbuku lamented that selfish individuals are working to undermine the commission’s progress and return it to instability and non-performance. He reassured that the NDDC Board and Management remain committed to their mantra, “Transiting from Transactions to Transformation.”
Ogbuku advised those seeking a change in leadership to wait, as President Tinubu has re-appointed him for another four-year term. The region can expect more people-oriented projects and programs, he added.
Upon signing the 2024 budget into law, Ogbuku promised that efforts to complete legacy projects will gain momentum, with plans to secure N1 trillion from development and commercial banks to fund projects across the Niger Delta region.
