Nigerian Correctional Service sets record straight on Ayomide Adeleye’s custody

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has debunked reports circulating in the media suggesting that Ayomide Adeleye, an awaiting trial person, was not in prison.
According to the NCS in a statement, Adeleye, with custody number S-1995/24, has been in their custody since September 26, 2024, when he was remanded at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kirikiri, Lagos, for alleged kidnapping and murder.
The NCS clarified that Adeleye was produced in court on December 16, 2024, and the presiding magistrate ordered that he remain in their custody pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP). Contrary to the misleading reports, Adeleye is still in custody, as ordered by the court.
It’s worth noting that there was another inmate with a similar name, who was admitted to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, on March 6, 2024, for theft. However, this individual was discharged on April 4, 2024, by court order.
The NCS has assured the public that they are working tirelessly to ensure the safe and humane custody of all legally interned persons, while also ensuring their proper reformation, rehabilitation, and resettlement back into their communities.
