Nigerians mourn as former deputy governor passes away

Delta State has lost one of its prominent leaders and legal minds, as former Deputy Governor Professor Amos Utuama (SAN) passed away at the age of 77.

The distinguished statesman, known for his dedication to Delta’s political and legal advancement, died after a career marked by service and commitment to public good.

Born on June 5, 1947, Utuama served as Deputy Governor from 2007 to 2015 under Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. His contributions, however, extended well beyond this role. Earlier, he had served as Delta State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice during Chief James Ibori’s administration, where he played a key role in legal reforms that strengthened the state’s judicial system.

Utuama was widely respected within Delta’s political circles, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta Central, and was celebrated for his unifying influence and dedication to the state’s progress. His recent 77th birthday in June was marked by a special tribute from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who praised Utuama’s unwavering commitment to Delta’s development.

Utuama leaves behind a legacy of impactful public service and a commitment to justice that continues to shape Delta State’s governance.
