NIS comptroller seeks support to boost border security

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reiterated its dedication to ensuring robust border governance, as stated by the Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, during her recent assessment tour of border areas in Katsina and Jigawa states.

As stated in a press release signed by Kenneth Udo, the NIS spokesperson, and made available on Saturday.

During the tour, Comptroller General Nandap conducted inspections at several key facilities, including the Fago Patrol Base, Daura Forward Operational Base, Kongolam Border Control Post, and Magatari Control Post, with a particular focus on the progress of the e-border projects currently underway.

Addressing stakeholders in the border communities, including traditional leaders, youth leaders, transport unions, and market women, Nandap “solicited for their cooperation in safeguarding our borders, especially the vast unmanned areas,” the statement read.

The Comptroller General emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating transborder crimes, including migrant smuggling and human trafficking, and urged residents to provide tips on illegal migrant activities.

Nandap underscored the value of collaborative efforts among security agencies, emphasizing that continued cooperation is essential for maintaining robust border governance and security.

“A safe border is a safe nation,” she remarked, underscoring the importance of joint efforts in maintaining national security.
