Nnamdi Azikiwe University Governing Council holds pre-inaugural meeting


Awka, Anambra State – The 10th Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University held a pre-inaugural meeting on Saturday, July 6, 2024, to discuss key agenda items crucial to the university’s growth and operation.
The meeting, led by Pro-Chancellor Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe, reviewed the university’s legal framework, standing orders, and financial documents to ensure transparency and accountability. The council also approved the payment of outstanding salaries to staff, promotion of eligible academic staff to the ranks of Reader and Professor, and conducted a comprehensive tour of the campus.
The meeting was attended by esteemed council members, including Hon. Austin Onyedebulu, Hon. Hafiz Oladejo, Engr. Amiolemen Abraham Osahon, and Gen. Funso Oyeneyin (Rtd). The university management and staff, led by Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, welcomed the council members.
Ambassador Mbadiwe urged collaborative work towards achieving the council’s strategic mandate and fostering the development of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Key Achievements at the Meeting:
1. Presentation of University Laws, Standing Orders, and Fiscal Documents:
The council reviewed the university’s legal framework, standing orders, and financial documents to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
2. Approval for Payment of Unpaid Staff:
The council approved the disbursement of outstanding salaries to staff, reinforcing its commitment to staff welfare and motivation.
3. Approval of Promotion to the Ranks of Reader and Professor:
The council endorsed the promotion of eligible academic staff to the prestigious ranks of Reader and Professor, recognizing their contributions to academia and research.
4. Tour of the Campus for First-Hand Information:
Council members conducted a comprehensive tour of the university campus to gain firsthand insights into the institution’s facilities and operations.
