Obasanjo refutes death rumors

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has debunked rumors of his death that surfaced on social media earlier this week.
The former leader addressed the speculation during the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco Road in Osogbo, Osun State, an event hosted by Governor Ademola Adeleke as part of activities marking his second year in office.
Speaking at the ceremony, Obasanjo expressed shock and dismay at waking up to news of his purported death. He revealed that a close associate called him early on Monday to confirm the rumors circulating online. Upon checking social media, he discovered posts claiming he had passed away overnight.
In his remarks, delivered in Yoruba, the former president lamented the insensitivity of those spreading such rumors and remarked that anyone wishing him harm would face misfortune. He said, “They may want me gone, but their wishes will never come true.”
Obasanjo used the opportunity to praise Governor Adeleke for his achievements in Osun State, expressing confidence in the governor’s ability to secure a second term. He urged Adeleke to remain focused on improving the welfare of Osun residents.
