Ogun govt allocates new houses to demolition victims

The Ogun State Government has allocated 15 housing units from the affordable housing programme in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode, to residents who lost their homes due to the recent demolition at Igbegba Housing Estate.
Approximately 15 residential units were impacted during the recent demolition operation carried out by the state government as part of its comprehensive urban renewal initiative aimed at revitalizing the state’s urban areas.
During a site visit on Wednesday, Ogun State Housing Corporation’s General Manager, Mr. Wale Ojo, made this disclosure, as stated in a recent statement.
Ojo described the exercise as an urban regeneration programme to ensure that the buildings met the current reality, as the housing units had lost value.
“Residents were given four months’ notice before the demolition exercise and the mortgages have also been extended to the people at a discounted interest rate.
“Some of the residents have also keyed into the affordable housing programme of the state government.
“The government is aware of the present economy of the country and, as a result, has made it mandatory to find succour for the residents of the estate by giving them relief measures, including the opportunity to key into the affordable housing scheme, as well as the avenue to access loans,” the statement read.
Mr. Akeem Rasheed, a resident affected by the demolition, revealed that the government provided a four-month notice period for them to vacate the premises, paving the way for the regeneration project to begin.
However, he urged that the promised relief measures should be fulfilled, and not ultimately neglected.
Rasheed expressed that if the government fulfills its promise, the residents will be deeply appreciative, and the state government’s gesture will leave a lasting, unforgettable impression on their lives.
