Paternity dispute: Court adjourns Mohbad’s son’s DNA test verdict

The Ikorodu Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos State has delayed the proceedings on the application for a DNA test to determine the paternity of Mohbad’s (Ilerioluwa Aloba) son.
The adjournment was a result of the failed negotiations between the Aloba family and Wunmi, Mohbad’s wife, aimed at reaching a settlement.
As disclosed in a statement by Monisola Odumosu, the family’s legal counsel, to The Nation, the court, on July 9, 2024, suggested alternative dispute resolution, but the parties failed to reach a settlement after negotiations.
Odumosu explained that the failure of the negotiations was attributed to “external factors.” The statement noted: “Emmanuel Oroko of Hillceetee Partners, representing Joseph Aloba, informed the court that, despite sincere efforts, the settlement talks faltered due to external factors. M.K.O Orire Esq., representing the respondent, confirmed this breakdown.”
Following petitions from both legal teams, Magistrate His Honour Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu adjourned the case to allow for the hearing of all pending applications related to the DNA test.
The court advised the parties to continue exploring settlement options before the next hearing.
The Aloba family had requested a DNA test after paternity issues concerning the child of Mohbad and his wife became contentious on social media.
The family stressed the importance of the DNA test, citing the suspicious circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing.
The statement also made it clear that the family has not designated a spokesperson and will not recognize any statements not authorized by their legal representatives.
The sudden death of Mohbad on September 12, 2023, at the young age of 27, sparked widespread controversy and debate on social media.
