Police condemn deadly attack by shi’ite group

FCT Police Command confirmed that two police officers were killed and three others left unconscious after a brutal attack by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as the Shi’ite group, at Wuse Junction in Abuja.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the attackers wielded machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives, and also set three police patrol vehicles ablaze.
“The proscribed organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked,” Adeh said.
“Several arrests have been made, and the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, condemns the unprovoked attack on police officers. He promises to bring those involved to book.”
Adeh added that the situation is currently under control, and normalcy has been restored.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents involving the Shi’ite group, which has been banned in Nigeria since 2019.
