Police kill youth over N100 in Anambra

A police officer from the Otuocha Area Command in Anambra East, Anambra State, has reportedly shot and killed a youth following a dispute at a checkpoint.
The altercation allegedly began over a N100 disagreement, which quickly escalated when one of the officers reportedly fired a fatal shot.
A source from Aguleri, the area where the incident occurred, shared the story along with a disturbing video of the deceased youth’s body. The police team at the scene was reportedly led by an officer identified as Onyebuchi.
While details remain unclear, sources suggest the conflict may have been over either a bribe request or an unpaid balance. The tragic event has sparked anger in the community, with local youths taking to the streets in protest.
Responding to inquiries, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the incident. He stated that the officer involved, Inspector Sani Suleiman, has been identified, disarmed, and placed in detention pending further investigation and disciplinary measures.
“The command is aware of the incident and has taken control of the situation,” Ikenga assured the public. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident is underway, with police authorities pledging accountability and transparency in handling the case.
