Police set to arraign lawmaker for assaulting Bolt driver

Nigerian Police Force is set to arraign a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, in court for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver at his Abuja residence.
Ikwechegh who is representing Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, is expected to take his plea before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kuje by 12 pm.
He would be prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit.
Mr Deji Adeyanju, who is the counsel representing the bolt driver, and Stephen Abuwatseya, who is the nominal complainant in the matter, confirmed the development to newsmen.
It will be recalled that Hon. Ikwechegh was seen in a video clip that went viral on social media platforms, repeatedly slapping the bolt driver.
Irked by what he described as the driver’s rude behaviour towards him, the federal lawmaker boasted that he could make him disappear without a trace and nothing would happen.
However, following a widespread condemnation that trailed his actions and utterances, the lawmaker tendered a public apology for his conduct.
