Poly debunks examination fee hike

Federal Polytechnic of Anambra State, Oko, has denied that it did not increase examination fee for the students of the institute.
Few students of the institute, led by the executive members of the Student Union Government, had earlier in the week, mounted a peaceful protest round the school to bespeak their “displeasure” with the imposing of a N5,000 examination fee and other levies on them by the school authority.
The protest led to the disturbance of both academic and non-academic activities in the campus as their first semester examinations already scheduled to start were also put on hold.
However, in a press statement on Friday, Chijioke Ibeziako, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, stated that the N5,000 examination fee in question was an old fee which was approved by the then governing council and students were well informed about it, add on that it was part of the accumulative fees that were approved for payment by students per session.
The statement read, “The attention of the Management of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, has been drawn to the news story making the rounds on the social media domain and some mainstream media on alleged imposition of examination fee on students by the management.
“The N5,000 examination fee in question is an old fee which was approved by the then governing council and students were informed about it. It is part of the cumulative fees that were approved for payment by students per session.”
