Popular pastor denies firearm ownership after viral ‘Gun’ video

Senior Pastor of House on the Rock, Paul Adefarasin, has publicly denied owning or brandishing a firearm, following a viral video that sparked widespread controversy online.

The video, which circulated heavily on social media on Friday, June 6, showed Pastor Adefarasin in his vehicle being filmed by a content creator. As he rolled down his window to confront the individual, he was seen holding an object in his hand, which many viewers speculated was a handgun. The content creator quickly apologized before the pastor drove off.

The footage ignited outrage across Nigeria, with many questioning why a prominent religious leader would allegedly threaten an unarmed citizen with a weapon.

Addressing the incident during his church service on Sunday, June 8, Pastor Adefarasin dismissed the accusations and described the video as a “false narrative” aimed at generating views and revenue.

“I was falsely accused of bearing a firearm and pointing it at an aggressive content creator who came within close proximity,” he said. “The only thing separating me and him was maybe three-quarters of a meter and a car window.”

He went on to clarify:

“I do not have a pistol license for a firearm. I do not carry a firearm, and I pointed no firearm at anybody.”

The pastor further suggested that the incident was part of a broader spiritual and media-driven attack:

“This is not merely an attack on a local church or a pastor. It is an organised strategy… by those chasing money through clickbait.”

The controversy continues to trend online as Nigerians debate the ethics and responsibilities of public figures in confrontational situations.
