Reps announce public hearing on Bill for Act to establish College of Agric Agila

The House of Representatives has announced a public hearing on a Bill for an Act seeking the establishment of a Federal College of Education, Agila, Benue State.
The House made this known in a letter to Hon. Philip Agbese, the Honorable Member representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency through the Committee on Agric, Colleges and Institutions.
Recall that the Deputy Spokesman of the House read the Bill for the first time in July 2023 and in October, it passed a second reading and was subsequently referred to the Committee for further legislative action.
Among many other things, the Bill seeks to create a federal institution dedicated wholly to agriculture with a tripodal mandate of teaching, research, and extension services in Agila, Ado Local Government.
In the letter dated May 20th and signed by its Chairman, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Committee said the one-day public hearing is scheduled to hold as follows:
Date: Tuesday 4th June, 2024
Time: 10:00am
Venue: Conference Room 034, Ground Floor, New Building Extension, House of Representatives Wing, National Assembly, Abuja.
Meanwhile, Hon. Agbese has called on stakeholders, community leaders, civil society groups and members of the public to attend the public hearing.
He said the aim is to gather inputs and contributions on the proposed institution, which aims to provide quality education and training in agriculture and related fields.
The Enone Servant added that the public hearing will provide an opportunity for discussions on the benefits, challenges, and potential impact of the institution on the agricultural sector, the host community and the nation at large.
He said the views of everyone will be invaluable in shaping the future of agricultural education in Nigeria.
