Shock as commissioner resigns after Umo Eno joins APC

Dr. Ini Ememobong, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port, has resigned from his position following Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The commissioner’s resignation came just hours after Governor Eno formally announced his switch during a high-profile event at the Government House in Uyo on Friday, June 6. The gathering drew prominent APC figures from across the country, including governors from Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Edo states, as well as Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President.
Governor Eno, who had been a staunch PDP figure, said his decision to join the APC followed “wide consultations,” and openly advised his political appointees who were unwilling to join him in the move to step down from their roles.
In response, Dr. Ememobong submitted a formal resignation letter, which has since circulated online. In the letter, he expressed gratitude to Governor Eno and his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, for the opportunity to serve in various capacities but firmly stated that his personal political principles could not allow him to align with the APC.
Taking to social media, Ememobong reaffirmed his stance, noting that his decision was driven by deep-rooted political values and a long-standing opposition to the APC’s platform. He emphasized that public service should never come at the cost of personal integrity.
