‘Step aside in 2027 for Nigeria’s sake’, PDP stalwart tells Atiku

A grassroots member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oko Emmanuel Ekpo, popularly known as Bricks, has written a strongly worded open letter to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urging him to step aside ahead of the 2027 general elections in the interest of Nigeria.
In the letter, which has since gone viral on social media, Bricks, who hails from Okpoma Ward in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, expressed concern over what he described as Atiku’s prolonged political ambition and its impact on the PDP’s ability to mount a strong opposition since 2015.
“Nigeria is currently facing significant challenges, and it is owed to your political interest over the years,” he wrote. “We have not been able to mount a strong opposition to the ruling party since 2015 because of your political harlotry.”
Bricks said that Atiku does not need to become president to prove his love for the country, suggesting instead that the former PDP presidential candidate support “neutral technocratic aspirations” that could unify Nigerians and offer fresh leadership.
“The blame for Nigeria’s economic woes is on your head and not past leaders because you have refused to join efforts to fight for Nigeria by not stepping aside,” the letter continued. “You want to be a figurehead while Nigeria slides into a one-party state.”
Bricks, who identified himself as a card-carrying PDP member and unit leader, said he was speaking on behalf of “fellow poor Nigerians enduring hardship” in a struggling economy.
He concluded, urging Atiku to reflect on his legacy and support a new path forward, writing: “I kindly ask you to consider giving space for neutral aspiration come 2027 that prioritizes the well-being of all Nigerians and Nigeria.”
