Tension as popular Ibadan restaurant building collapses

A yet-to-be-completed building belonging to the fast-growing food brand, Item7go, collapsed on Sunday evening around the Dugbe area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident, which quickly gained traction on social media, has triggered mixed reactions from netizens. While some expressed sympathy for the brand and its investors, others raised serious concerns about the structural design of the ill-fated building.
Commenting on the collapse, one TikTok user wrote: “The structure height is too much, to be honest. No building beside Item7 Dugbe, Ibadan, has the same kind of design that can withstand the wind and humidity of that location—especially during the rainy season.”
Eyewitnesses said the building fell suddenly, causing panic among nearby residents and road users. The debris reportedly blocked one lane of the busy Dugbe–Mokola Road, leading to traffic congestion in the area.
Emergency response teams, including rescue officials and heavy-duty equipment, arrived at the scene to evacuate the rubble and clear the obstruction.
As of the time of filing this report, there were no confirmed reports of casualties.
