Tinubu approves pension increase for retirees

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has increased pensions by 20% and introduced a minimum pension of N32,000 for retirees.
This adjustment applies to retirees from specific salary schemes, including health workers, doctors, lecturers, police, paramilitary, and armed forces personnel.
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Sunday expressed gratitude for these steps, describing them as measures to improve the lives of pensioners nationwide.
Mr Godwin Abumisi, NUP’s National President hailed President Bola Tinubu for tackling the financial difficulties faced by retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
According to Abumisi, this is the first time such adjustments have been made without the need for protests.
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), led by its new Executive Secretary, Ms. Tolulope Odunaiya, was commended for ensuring prompt implementation of the changes.
Abumisi however raised concerns about irregularities in the payment process, pointing out that some pensioners have not received their full entitlements.
He called on PTAD to review its records and address any errors promptly, emphasizing the need to ensure all pensioners receive the benefits they are entitled to.
