Tinubu, Northern leaders urged to intervene in Zulum’s ‘politically motivated’ demolition


A call has been made to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Northern leaders to intervene in the demolition of a plaza in Borno State owned by a political opponent of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The demolition, which has been described as “politically motivated” and disguised as urban restructuring, has raised concerns about abuse of power, suppression of opposition, and disregard for legal processes.
Ambassador Abdul Usman Shuaibu, National Coordinator of the Progressive League of Youth Voters, condemned the act in a statement.
He highlighted the economic implications of the demolition, including the destruction of businesses and jobs.
“This move signals a dangerous trend of silencing political rivals through intimidation rather than democratic engagement,” Ambassador Shuaibu said. “To uphold justice and democracy, stakeholders must hold the government accountable and resist the normalization of political oppression in Borno State.”
The demolition has sparked outrage, with many calling for accountability and an end to political oppression in Borno State.
