Tragedy as revenue collector crushed to death

A revenue collector lost his life in a tragic accident while attempting to collect dues from a truck driver along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the New Garage area on Sunday.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to reports, the victim was crossing the busy expressway in an attempt to stop a containerized truck with registration number FST 887 XD when he was struck. The impact was fatal, leading to his immediate death.
LASTMA personnel were promptly deployed to the scene to manage the situation and ensure minimal disruption to traffic flow. The deceased’s body was handed over to officers from the Adigboluje Police Division, who are now working with the victim’s family to finalize arrangements.
Taofiq noted that the truck driver fled the scene after realizing the gravity of the accident. Efforts to locate the driver are ongoing, as authorities continue their investigation.
In his statement, Taofiq highlighted the dangers of crossing expressways and the risks associated with informal revenue collection activities near highways.
The Lagos State Government has yet to release further information on steps to address the recurring safety concerns surrounding transport union activities on highways.
