Transfer: Barcelona get €8m as West Ham seal Todibo deal

The Spanish Champion Barcelona are set to receive a welcome financial boost, with the club due around eight million euros after West Ham United completed the permanent signing of French centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice in a €40 million deal.

The Premier League side confirmed the transfer on Friday, with the move officially taking effect on 1 July. Todibo, 25, joined the Hammers last summer on an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy, and went on to make 29 appearances across all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign.

After an injury-hit first half of the season, he regained his place and started 12 of West Ham’s final 13 Premier League fixtures.

Barcelona had sold Todibo to Nice for €8.5 million but retained a 20% sell-on clause, which now yields them an additional eight million euros. Despite making just a handful of appearances during his time at the Camp Nou, the Frenchman has proven to be a profitable investment.

Originally signed from Toulouse in the 2018/19 season for a fee of one million euros, the 25-year-old failed to establish himself in the first team and was subsequently loaned out to Schalke 04 and Benfica, earning Barcelona a combined €3.5 million.

Nice eventually paid €8.5 million for 80% of his rights, and with the latest West Ham transfer, Barcelona’s total earnings from Todibo now amount to around €20 million.

This marks Barcelona’s second piece of transfer business, bringing in funds this month. Earlier in the week, Como — managed by former midfielder Cesc Fabregas — confirmed the six million euros signing of left-back Alex Valle.
