Updated: Gov Radda offers job to first-class graduate selling sachet water

The inspiring story of Sham’unu Ishaq, a first-class graduate from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, has taken a remarkable turn as Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, offers him a direct job placement.
Ishaq, who graduated with distinction in Education/Biology during the 2021/2022 academic year, resorted to selling sachet water after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Taraba State. His plight went viral after a video showed him hustling to support his family despite his academic achievements.
Responding to the viral clip, Governor Radda ordered his Special Assistant on Students’ Matters, Muhammad Nagaske, to verify the claims. Upon confirmation from the university, the Governor wasted no time in providing Ishaq with an automatic job offer.
In a statement shared by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, Isah Miqdad, Radda reaffirmed his commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic excellence.
“Academic excellence should be rewarded, not relegated to the streets. Our administration recognizes that the future of Katsina State lies in harnessing the potential of our brightest minds,” Radda said.
This isn’t the first time Governor Radda has taken decisive steps to uplift outstanding graduates. Between May and October 2024, his administration has provided employment to 18 top-performing graduates across the state.
Last month, nine First-Class graduates from Isah Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma, were given automatic jobs.
During the convocation ceremony of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in May, Radda also offered employment to nine top-performing graduates.
The Governor’s intervention not only changes Ishaq’s personal story but also sends a powerful message about the importance of education and hard work. By investing in young talents like Ishaq, the Radda administration is demonstrating its dedication to creating opportunities for youth empowerment and fostering a brighter future for Katsina State.
