VIDEO: Falz breaks silence on defamation suit against VeryDarkMan

Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has spoken out about the defamation lawsuit he filed against social media personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM).

The case arose after VDM accused Falz and his father, prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), of aiding popular crossdresser Bobrisky in evading money laundering charges.

In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, Falz addressed the controversy, revealing details of his conversation with VDM after the social media figure released a viral video making the accusations. Falz described how he approached VDM to clarify the situation, only to be met with resistance.

“This guy was instantly defensive from the beginning,” Falz explained. “I tried to have a conversation and asked him to listen, but he kept fighting back. And then he said to me, without mincing words, ‘Shebi you’re a lawyer; go to court.’”

Falz further disclosed that while he had the legal option to pursue criminal charges for defamation, he decided against it. “There’s a criminal angle to defamation, and I chose not to go that way. He could have been arrested. But I only asked him to take down the video and issue an apology within a specific period. And what did he do? Nothing,” Falz recounted.

The rapper expressed his disappointment not only at the false allegations but also at the disrespect shown towards his father, Femi Falana, who has been a tireless advocate for justice and the oppressed in Nigeria.

“I don’t go around looking for trouble, but you set up your ring light and started talking nonsense about me. Do you expect me to stay silent?” Falz remarked. “He disrespected my father—a man who has consistently stood up for the oppressed. This level of disrespect? Our people say, ‘Any child who says his mother won’t sleep, he himself won’t sleep.’”

In closing, Falz left no doubt about his resolve to confront the situation head-on. “If you say you want to find trouble, trouble is my work. If that’s what you’re looking for, let’s go,” he concluded.
