MTN CMO resigns

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Adia Sowho, has resigned leaving the top marketing post vacant.
Sowho, a trailblazer who broke barriers as the first female Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Nigeria in August 2021, has departed from her role, reportedly amidst contentious circumstances.
Sowho’s career began in 2001 after earning an engineering degree. She initially worked as a radio frequency engineer at US Cellular Corporation in Chicago before moving into management consulting with Deloitte Consulting LLP in 2007.
According to an insider, Sowho’s departure was by mutual agreement, though MTN Nigeria had not released an official statement at the time of reporting. Her exit comes amid unverified allegations of corruption.
According to MTN spokesperson, Lakimfa Goodluck, Adia Sowho’s exit from the company has been amicably resolved, characterizing it as a ‘mutual disengagement.’ When pressed about the allegations of corruption surrounding her departure.
Meanwhile, Ugonwa Nwoye, the current Chief Customer and Experience Officer (CCXO), will take on additional responsibilities as Acting Chief Marketing Officer. As a seasoned C-suite executive, Nwoye already leads the largest customer care operation in the telecommunications industry across Africa and the Middle East.
Her expanded role will leverage her expertise in customer operations strategy, contact services design and implementation, and customer experience enhancement across all segments targeted by MTN Nigeria.
