Breaking: Court halts CBN from disbursing funds to Rivers State govt

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order barring the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.
The ruling came in response to allegations of constitutional violations by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
According to Justice Abdulmalik, Fubara’s receipt and disbursement of monthly allocations since January 2024 constituted a breach of the 1999 Constitution. The judge noted that the governor’s presentation of the state’s 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly was in direct contravention of constitutional provisions, describing it as an “aberration.”
In light of this, Justice Abdulmalik also ordered the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank to halt any further financial disbursements from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account to Governor Fubara.
