Lagos 2027: Prominent APC member blasts call for Seyi Tinubu

Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected the idea of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, contesting for the position of Lagos State governor in the 2027 elections.
Thediscovererng.com reports that Igbokwe’s comments came after the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a collective of youth organizations from across Nigeria, endorsed Seyi Tinubu for the role. The endorsement, made public on Tuesday, sparked debates over the political future of the president’s son.
In a strongly worded Facebook post on Wednesday, Igbokwe criticized the endorsement, describing it as an unnecessary distraction and an orchestrated attempt to undermine President Tinubu. He emphasized that leading a state as complex and strategic as Lagos requires maturity and experience, not youth alone.
“Who are these faceless people pushing Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governor? This is a needless distraction,” Igbokwe wrote. “To pull PBAT (President Bola Ahmed Tinubu) down is their target. Please allow PBAT to focus on his very engaging and tasking job. Ruling Lagos is not the job of boys.”
Igbokwe’s statement has drawn mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that Lagos needs an experienced leader while others see the endorsement as part of democratic processes.
Seyi Tinubu has yet to comment on the endorsement or Igbokwe’s remarks. Meanwhile, political observers view this development as part of the early politicking ahead of the 2027 elections.
