APC stalwart defends Shettima, condemns ‘misleading’ narrative

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar D. Duhu, has raised concerns over what he described as a deliberate and misleading narrative aimed at portraying Vice President Kashim Shettima in a negative light.
Reacting to a trending video with the caption “Shocking Truth About Access to Tinubu and Aso Rock” shared by Bush Radio Gist, Dr. Duhu described the content as a clear act of mischief intended to stoke division among Northerners by insinuating that Shettima has been sidelined by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He cautioned that such narratives were not only unfounded but also dangerous, as they shift public focus away from holding government accountable to the people.
“It is deeply regrettable that a deliberate narrative is being crafted to mislead Northerners into believing that the Vice President, who ordinarily should be championing our collective interests, has been marginalized in a government supposedly dominated by South Westerners, particularly those called ‘the Lagos Boys’,” Dr. Duhu said in a statement issued from Abuja.
He noted that rather than fuelling regional sentiments and political drama, Nigerians—especially Northerners—should channel their energies into demanding improved governance and solutions to the nation’s pressing challenges.
“Our challenges as Northerners and Nigerians extend far beyond the perceived dynamics between the President and Vice President. Let’s prioritize addressing the nation’s pressing issues rather than getting bogged down in sensationalized politics,” he added.
Dr. Duhu also defended Vice President Shettima, describing him as a calm, humble, and dignified leader who values restraint and maturity in the face of political provocation.
“While he may choose to overlook isolated incidents, if these claims are substantiated and proven to be deliberate attempts to undermine his office, the consequences will undoubtedly be severe. It is essential to recognize that such actions will not be tolerated and will be addressed with the gravity they deserve,” he warned.
The APC stalwart concluded by calling for unity and maturity in national discourse, urging Nigerians not to fall for divisive tactics but to remain focused on holding leaders accountable to their constitutional responsibilities.
