Fire guts Ibadan mechanic workshop, client’s vehicle burnt

A fire outbreak in the early hours of Monday, June 9, 2025, destroyed a Mazda bus parked at a mechanic workshop in the Sawmill area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occurred in front of the Alarere Central Mosque, where the affected vehicle— a Mazda bus with registration number KWL 943 ZA (Abuja) was parked alongside dozens of others. Fortunately, the swift intervention of the Oyo State Fire Service prevented the blaze from spreading to the other vehicles.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the development in a statement made available to reporters on Monday. He said the agency received a distress call at exactly 8:27 a.m.
“Immediately the address was taken, a crew of firemen led by ACFS Adesina Olusoji was swiftly deployed to the scene,” Akinwande said. “Upon arrival, we found a Mazda bus fully engulfed in flames. Our team quickly brought the fire under control and successfully prevented it from spreading to nearby vehicles.”
According to the fire service, the inferno affected only one out of 48 vehicles parked at the workshop, saving properties worth millions of naira.
Akinwande added that safety advice was issued to the workshop owner to help prevent future occurrences of such incidents.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the fire.
