Breaking: Memo on new minimum wage put on hold

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has put on hold the memo on the new minimum wage.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who briefed State House Correspondents, said all 39 agenda items were thoroughly discussed during the meeting.

Regarding the minimum wage, Minister Idris explained that the Tripartite Committee, consisting of representatives from local government, states, NLC/TUC, and the federal government, had submitted its report.

However, due to the complexity of the issue involving various stakeholders such as the Local Government, states, Federal Government, Organized Private Sector, and Labour unions, the Council could not reach a decision.

The memo on the new minimum wage was stepped down to permit President Bola Tinubu to undertake additional consultations, ensuring a more inclusive approach before submitting a final report to the National Assembly.

This move highlights the vital importance of inclusive and thorough consultation, as well as collaborative engagement among all stakeholders, in tackling critical national issues like the minimum wage.
