Easter: FCT NSCDC deploys 3,500 personnel for security

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, has ordered the deployment of 3,500 Personnel across the nooks and crannies of the FCT to ensure law and order ahead of the Easter Celebrations.
The Commandant gave this order while addressing officers and men of the Command ahead of the Easter operations, where he saud the deployment is in a bid to provide adequate security for Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT, as well as protect lives and property of all residents and visitors before, during and after the Easter celebration.
In a statement by the Commands Spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, Wednesday, the Commandant said the of the officers and men cuts across departments and units such as operations, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE), Mines and Steel, Special Duty, Special Protection Unit (SPU), Anti Vandals, and other Special Forces like the Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Arms Squad, and Operation Adakasu amongst others.
The statement added that the security of the FCT during this festive period is sacrosanct, hence, the need for massive deployment to vulnerable locations and soft targets such as churches, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, the city gate, 3 Arms Zone and so on.
He said all government buildings and areas housing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure must be manned to avoid any type of vandalism which is usually rife during festive periods.
“On no account should any Critical Infrastructure be vandalized during the Easter holiday, therefore, adequate deployment of personnel to all nooks and crannies of the FCT must be ensured.
“The government has given us a responsibility to protect lives and property, maintain peace, order and to keep miscreants and criminals at bay and, take note, they are observing our activities keenly.
“We have no excuse for failure and we can’t afford to fail, that is why personally, I will be on patrol as usual to ensure compliance and i won’t tolerate any form of indiscipline, compromise or any activities that would jettison our efforts in providing satisfactory security coverage for the FCT”, the Commandant charged.
He further directed that covert operations should commence immediately for surveillance of various blackspots and uncompleted buildings where criminals hibernate in the city to prevent any form of surprises, emergency situations or unforseen circumstances.
He assured residents and visitors to the Capital City of a hitch free Easter celebration as security would be emplaced adequately within and around the city, including the six (6) Areas Councils.
Dr. Odumosu, gave matching orders to all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure that their various Area Commands and Divisions are on top of their game and ensure that their presence is felt everywhere to avoid security breeches.
“All hands must be on deck, deploy adequately, be proactive and be on top of your game to prevent any form of security breeches”, he directed.
The FCT helmsman, charges all officers and men of the Command to be of good conduct and work in synergy with other security agencies and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.
“Avoid harassment and intimidation of any citizen and there must be no accidental discharge from the arms bearers. If you do, you have yourself to blame”, he warned
Odumosu, urges residents of the FCT to play their parts in ensuring safety of the Territory by being proactive and vigilant.
He advised that credible Intelligence relating to any suspicious movements of individual or groups should not be withheld but to be shared and reported to any security agency close to them.
He warns criminals and vandals to stay off Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, stating that NSCDC officers and men would be all over the capital city and will not hesitate to bring any offender to justice.
He wishes all Christians in the FCT a joyous celebration and prayed for peace, prosperity and the well being of our Nation.
