FG, Lagos govt launch eye care centre

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Lagos State Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Onesight Essilorluxottica Foundation, have launched a new eye care center in Lagos, as part of a broader initiative to improve access to eye care for the public.
The inaugural Vision Centre was officially launched at Alimosho General Hospital in Igando, coinciding with the introduction of a new initiative titled “Effective Spectacle Coverage Initiative Nigeria Jigi Bola 2.0”, as announced in a statement released on Saturday.
At the event, Dr. Oteri Okolo, National Coordinator of the National Eye Health Programme, stated that the initiative, established by President Bola Tinubu, aligns with the World Health Assembly’s global objective of achieving effective eye care coverage in all countries by 2030.
Okolo said, “Eye care is very important and good vision is very critical to humans, and that is why this initiative of President Tinubu is to ensure that Nigerians have access to affordable glasses.”
Mr. Anurag Hans, President of Onesight Essilorluxottica Foundation, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to addressing and overcoming the challenges of diverse eye impairments worldwide.
Mr. Hans revealed that the Onesight Essilorluxottica Foundation has launched initiatives in 120 countries aimed at eradicating the challenges posed by poor vision, and has also successfully distributed over 18 million pairs of glasses to individuals globally.
