Protest: NSCDC FCT Commandant inspects public facilities in Abuja, commends residents

The Commandant, Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu has commended Abuja residence for not tampering with Critical National Assets and Infrastructures during the protest in the FCT.

He made this known while inspecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure on the second day of the ongoing nationwide protest.

Dr. Odumosu visited the railway corridors at Wupa, Kukwaba 1 and 2, Bassanjiwa, Gwagwa and Idu, and expressed satisfaction that there was no reported case of vandalism by miscreants under the guise of hunger protest.

“I am happy that the protesters in the FCT understood their boundaries and have not crossed the line to vandalise any public infrastructure.

“We have a collective duty to protect critical national assets and infrastructure as these amenities were provided with our common wealth.

‘Destroying them will only take us years backward and it is our duty to prevent that,” Odumosu said.

The Director of transport, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA),  Engr. Joseph O. Akinteye, PhD, who received the Commandant at the Idu railway station applauded the personnel of NSCDC FCT Command for their diligence in securing the railway corridors.

“We have not had any case of vandalism for some time now, and this shows the commitment of your officers and men in securing public infrastructure in the FCT”, he said.

Other places inspected by the Commandant include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Wuse, FCT water board, Asokoro and the Abuja Central Mosque.

The Commandant reiterated that, even though it is the civic right of every Nigerian to engage in peaceful protest, the Corps will not tolerate any attempt by anyone to cause destruction to Government properties and installations in the territory.

Odumosu however frowned at the attack of motorists on Thursday at the Lugbe area of the territory and the burning of private vehicles at Nyanya and other places.

“I am calling on the public to embrace dialogue as this is the civilised way to air grievances as violence will only cause more harm than good,” he reiterated.
