VIDEO: Okpebholo sparks outrage over road repair comments

Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, has come under fire for his controversial statement on road repairs.
In a BBC Pidgin interview, Okpebholo claimed he would repair interstate roads using N10 million and then claim N20 million from the federal government if elected. This remark has ignited widespread criticism, with many Nigerians expressing their disapproval on social media.

Netizens have accused Okpebholo of endorsing corrupt practices, with some labeling Nigeria a “lawless country” where such behavior is expected. Critics argue that his statement implies contract inflation and theft, with one user commenting, “This is why we can’t move forward as a nation.” Others have questioned the ethical implications of such a statement from a potential leader, saying, “If a governorship candidate can say this so casually, imagine what happens behind closed doors.”
Despite the backlash, some supporters have defended Okpebholo, claiming he was referring to the reimbursement process for state governments handling interstate infrastructure projects. However, the outrage continues to grow, with many calling for greater scrutiny of such remarks ahead of the September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State.

@arthur: Massive rigging loading, because there’s no way any right thinking person would vote this fella. Edo people it’s left to you to accept the rigging.
@m.i.dominic: I know a lot of people will take him out of context but here is it.Invest 10 million into federal roads.
Get 10 Million in profit back to the state purseThis should be a legal business. If the federal government isn’t okay with it, they should learn to fix their roads frequently.
@agbalaka: Lawless country ruled by criminals and emboldened by Tulumbu as the leader
@njacoach: A man that wants to be governor is promising to scam the Federal Govt of Nigeria.
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” (Luke 6:45, Matt 12:34)
Edo State is finished if this man becomes governor.
@davideboh5: Why am I having difficulty in understanding the ideological stand of this guy? I am struggling to comprehend his intellectual integrity and leadership qualities. He appears very vague on policies. And being in APC puts him at very low level that characterises Tinubu’s leadership.
As the election approaches, Okpebholo’s comments have become a focal point, with many Nigerians demanding more responsible leadership.
