Atiku’s ally visits Tinubu in Lagos

Ahead of 2027, Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos.
Showunmi, who also contested for the PDP governorship ticket in Ogun State, shared a photo from the visit on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
The image shows him standing beside the President, with a caption highlighting the significance of their meeting.
“Sallah Day 3! I spent quality time with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, @officialABAT GCFR. It was engaging and nostalgic,” he wrote.
According to Showunmi, the visit formed part of his Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and offered an opportunity for reflective and engaging discussions with the President.
The visit is the latest in a series of interactions between President Tinubu and figures formerly aligned with the opposition, prompting speculation about shifting political allegiances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In November 2023, Tinubu appointed Daniel Bwala, another former spokesperson for Atiku’s campaign, as Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media—a move that raised eyebrows within PDP and the All Progressives Congress circles.
As political realignments continue to unfold, visits such as Showunmi’s are being closely watched for signs of emerging alliances across party lines.
