Adesina receives high praise as AfDB tenure ends in August

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded Dr. Akinwumi Adesina on the successful completion of his two terms as Managing Director of the African Development Bank (AfDB), describing his tenure as “spectacular” and “unmatched in excellence.”
“I have seen Dr. Adesina, a son of Nigeria, put up a spectacular performance in the African Development Bank after two terms,” Buhari said. “Records show that he has set such a great, unmatched record of excellence, leaving shareholders far happier than they had ever been.”
The former president expressed personal satisfaction in supporting Adesina’s rise to the helm of the bank, saying, “I am happy with the role I played in bringing his talent forward.”
Highlighting the qualities that propelled Adesina’s success, Buhari noted, “He is blessed with a special talent, combined with hope, faith, a firm resolve and confidence.” He added that “hard work, discipline, and dedicated training” were key factors in making Dr. Adesina who he is today.
“Despite all odds, he stood out as a beacon of inspiration to others,” Buhari remarked, acknowledging the impact of Adesina’s leadership not just on the bank, but on the broader African development landscape.
As Dr. Adesina’s tenure concludes this August, Buhari wished him “greater strength and success in his future endeavors,” while the AfDB prepares to welcome a new leader to continue its mission.
