APC urges Tinubu to reverse fuel price hike

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, has made an impassioned appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to reverse the recent increase in petrol prices.
In an open letter obtained by, Eba expressed deep concern over the impact of the price hike on Nigerians, particularly Tinubu’s supporters.
Thediscovererng.com reports that Eba’s letter comes in the wake of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) decision to raise the pump price of fuel, a move that has sparked widespread discontent across the country. He lamented that this increase came just as the long-awaited Dangote Refinery began production on September 3, 2024, a development that many had hoped would lead to a reduction in fuel prices.
“I write to salute your tireless efforts in your quest to make life better for Nigerians and to humbly appeal to you to call NNPCL to order before we incur the wrath of Nigerians,” Eba stated in his letter to President Tinubu. “The cries of all Nigerians, including your genuine supporters, are very loud and may grow even louder in the days and months to come if nothing is done about it.”
Eba urged the President to consider reversing the fuel price increase or, at the very least, introducing a partial subsidy to ease the burden on the populace. He warned that failure to address the issue could have serious consequences for both social and food security, potentially leading to a crisis.
“As we meet for our NEC on the 12th of September, 2024, I will reiterate this appeal with the best of intentions to save our party’s soul from premature political death,” Eba wrote. He also called for negotiations with Dangote to set fuel prices at a reasonable, subsidized cost, emphasizing that the welfare and happiness of Nigerians should be the government’s top priority.
Eba concluded his letter by reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu, stating, “I remain your sincere, trusted, reliable & loyal party man, diehard supporter, and strongest believer in your ability to save Nigeria.”
