Lagos govt shuts RCCG, Celestial Church, others

In a sweeping move to curb noise pollution, the Lagos State government has shut down multiple establishments across the state, including a branch of Pastor E.A. Adeboye’s Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Celestial Church of God, nightclubs, and event centers.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced on Wednesday that the closures were enforced on Tuesday by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA). Affected areas included Ogudu, Gbagada, Iyana Ejigbo, Isolo, Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Ilasamaja, and Okota, where LASEPA sealed venues over what it described as significant breaches of environmental standards.
Among the establishments shut down were the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Celestial Church of God, OMA Nightclub and Lounge, Honourable Lounge & Lodging, Bridge Spot Bar, Okiki Event Centre and Hall, Emota Paradise Hotel (Phase 2), CF Hotel & Suites, House 27 Hotel & Suites, Echo Spring Hotel, and Smile T Continental Hotel.
Wahab highlighted the government’s commitment to protecting public health through strict environmental enforcement, saying in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), “This enforcement drive by LASEPA across various areas is part of ongoing efforts to uphold environmental standards in Lagos and safeguard public health.”
