Manchester City target Frankfurt’s star as Haaland’s backup

Manchester City is eyeing a deal to sign Egyptian forward and Eintracht Frankfurt’s
Omar Marmoush as a backup for Erling Haaland who is yet to replicate his last season’s goal-scoring form for City.
According to a report obtained from Sky Sports’ website on Thursday, the German club is demanding around £67m (€80m) for the 25-year-old, but so far, no negotiations have been done between the clubs yet.
Sky Sports also stated that there is no release clause for the forward and offers significantly below that are expected to be rejected by the Bundesliga club, who are third in the German top flight.
Reports say City and Marmoush’s camp consider a transfer fee of £42m- £50m (€50-€60m) to be more realistic.
Marmoush, who can operate across the front three, has scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga so far this season with only Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scoring more.
He has netted 18 goals in all competitions this campaign and is second only behind Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah for goal involvements across the top five European leagues this season.
In another development, Manchester City has approached Palmeiras over a deal for 18-year-old centre-back Vitor Reis with discussions still in the early stages.
Palmeiras are understood to be hopeful of a fee in the region of £33.5m to £40m.
The defender made 22 appearances last season for Palmeiras, scoring two goals.
He also captained Brazil’s U17 team at the U17 World Cup in 2023.
