Segun Showunmi hails Nasir El-Rufai at 65, describes as ‘confirmed disruptor’

Otunba Segun Showunmi, the convener of The Alternative, has penned a heartfelt tribute to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on his 65th birthday, praising his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
In a statement shared, Showunmi dismissed any attempts to downplay El-Rufai’s role in shaping the country’s political landscape, emphasizing that history would always recognize his impact.
“My beloved Mallam Nasir, it is too late for anyone to attempt to belittle your role and contribution to our recent democratic journey. Naturally, not everyone can accept or appreciate everything,” he wrote.
The political analyst and former spokesperson urged El-Rufai to exercise caution in his approach, especially given the current political climate. He reiterated his belief in the former governor’s ability to bring transformative change to Northern Nigeria if given the opportunity.
“As I have always told you, I believe you can look the North straight in the face and reform it. Given the North’s potential, I strongly believe any sane patriot must be interested in the well-being of our people, our land, and all that concerns Nigeria in the North.”
Showunmi also encouraged patience and strategic thinking, noting that what some perceive as setbacks could ultimately work in El-Rufai’s favor.
“Sometimes what people desire for evil mostly always turns out for our good if only we are patient, measured, and strategic,” he added.
Describing El-Rufai as a “confirmed disruptor who can cause a ripple that leads to significant impact,” Showunmi wished him a happy birthday and reaffirmed his confidence in his leadership abilities.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, known for his bold reforms and outspoken views.
