Bishop Kukah urges political leaders to embrace science over spiritualism

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese in Sokoto State has called on political leaders to abandon their reliance on spiritualists and instead adopt scientific methods to govern the country.
Speaking at the unveiling of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Progressive Institute in Abuja, Kukah emphasized that Nigerians are more concerned about leaders who can provide for their basic needs than about political affiliations.
Kukah, known for his outspokenness, stated that he doesn’t belong to any political party but is political. He encouraged politicians to write their biographies to serve as lessons for future generations. He also stressed the need for leaders to address the pressing issues of hunger and fuel prices.
The bishop criticized the practice of seeking guidance from spiritualists, saying they offer nothing beneficial to the country. Instead, he advocated for a scientific approach to governance and administration.
In his remarks, APC national chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje described the Progressive Institute as a platform for promoting good governance and progressive ideology. He said the institute will serve as the party’s official think-tank and provide a space for elected members to discuss national issues.
Ganduje highlighted the institute’s roles, including serving as a policy think-tank and intellectual resource center. He urged stakeholders to support the initiative, which aims to enhance the party’s competitiveness and promote transparent leadership recruitment, inclusive public policy, and good governance.
