Why Mojisola Meranda abruptly stepped down as Lagos speaker

Mojisola Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has resigned from her position, paving the way for Mudashiru Obasa to return as Speaker.
Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency I, announced her resignation during a plenary session on Monday, stating that her decision was in deference to party directives.
“I am not a quitter,” she declared before the 40-member Assembly, reaffirming her commitment to public service despite stepping down.
Following her resignation, Meranda was immediately re-elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
Obasa, who was previously removed from office, has now reclaimed his position as Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
